Snow. In Greater Metropolitan Arab!

IMG_0353 copy

We did not get any snow last year.

This picture was taken about halfway through the fall, just before the light got too low to take a decent photograph, at least for my limited skills. (I seem to have done much better in the old days of ASA 1000 film with my Chinon SLR, but..…..)

The roads never got more than wet, which was a boon since the theory of most of my fellow Alibam citizens, the ones who have never lived where they really have winter, is that the faster you drive on icy/snowy roads, the better. The rationale for this is that it minimizes the time you are exposed to mishap and the stupid antics of others.

The latter is rather a matter of one cooking container slandering another, but the idea that the likelihood and likely intensity of a mishap being speed related is beyond the comprehension of most. But then most of my fellow citizens take delight in being proud of their ignorance of how the universe works. Their reality all too often is cutthroat mercantilism during the week and mystical religion on the weekend.

And unlike them, the snow is pleasing to look upon. Sadly, it was all gone this morning except on the roofs of automobiles and houses and other places where it was out of contact of a heat source. Alas, it was already rotting – the idea of snow rotting is also one that is alien to the mind of most Alibamians – making that poignant cracking noise as it melts.

  1. Neat. We didn’t even have enough stick (in Eastern Limestone County) to take a picture of. But the snow falling was a pretty sight.
