Not Lying

Yesterday I ran across this cartoon [Link]

and immediately thought about the nature of information.

Inherently, for a variety of reasons, information is corrupted and therefore in some degree is false, to use the traditional and inaccurate way of expressing matters, or inaccurate, which seems the best we can do right now to express ourselves.

Lacking any observation to confirm, we find ourselves in a situation of having, for the sake of social cohesion as much as anything, to have to accept that communication between deity and human may be accurate – truth – but recognize that as soon as the human attempts to communicate that information to other it immediately becomes inaccurate.

Truth is thus limited to a rather special situation, which is not at all related to the common usage of the word. In particular, I am made mindful of the justicer usage and the emphasis on oaths. If one is of religionist bent, then such an oath seems an abomination and an evil. If one is not it is a impossible trap that one cannot escape. For both it is a negation of integrity and responsibility.

But we continue to use the same old language and act in a blase manner.
