It being sundae and most of the good folk of the Old Confederacy, and Greater Metropolitan Arab, off to services in the next while, it seemed fitting to consider an article [Link] in the Wall Street Journal this week. The article, written by one actual football player about another, deals with the matter of religionist observations in concert with football games. Happily he limits himself to the professional games and does not drag in the morass of others.
I will do so.
In my lifetime I have attended football games at both the high shule and collegiate levels. The former are corrupted by extensive religionist expressions, the latter almost never are, at least in my experience. Now I am not against a moment of silence so that those who wish to pray or gut animals can do so, but extended periods such as are used by Southron book thumpers are discomforting and discouraging. To borrow the title of the article “Does God Care Who Wins Football Games?”, I should say that I hope not since somehow I find it difficult to think that any god who cares about who wins a football game, or any other kind of game, is rather on the level of the Olympian gods. If god cares who wins the game then the next thing is impregnation of a cheerleader. Monotheism has been successful because god is above this kind of nonsense.
So why can’t we humans get that figured out? Boggism seems an inadequate reason.
And while we’re on the azimuth of leaving well enough alone, I note in the Register an article [Link] on limiting connection hogging. This brings us to consideration of the SOPA thing and whether it is finally an opportunity for the citizenry to cast out the politicians, and their anti-citizen parties, at point of bayonet? It is one thing for someone to say to a data swine that they are going to be throttled a bit to give all users a reasonable level playing field, but it is another to give the Yankee government free pass to send out their internet cossacks to rape and pillage.
Next, I see an article [Link] where a government official is saying that children should not just be consumers of software but producers as well! Sadly, the official is one of Her Tyranny’s government and not any part of the Yankee government. Amerika’s government seems steadfast in keeping the citizenry ignorant by continually corrupting the shules and absence of making the students computate is one of the primary means. So why can’t Dick and Jane code? The same reason that they can’t read – so they can be unrebellious productive serfs.
Along which azimuth, I see in another article [Link] that the academics are screaming about the goring of their fattened calf by the purveyors of certificates and badges of chunk learning. Since the colleges have conspicuously failed to be able to educate the young, reducing things to where those young refer to a diploma as an education, and knowing, apparently, no better. We cannot weep for the gowned; we can weep for humanity. But it does seem galgenhumor that these boy scoutish programs were largely wrought by the IT folks when those selfsame academics couldn’t get the distilled courses into their curricula.
And lastly, an article [Link] about the bankruptcy of Twinkies and Wunder Bread. Well, actually the bankruptcy is of the manufacturing company but the journalists chose to make it a polemic on the bankruptcy of the products and in the process, to use the words of the commedian Andy Griffith, “they stepped in something”, a phrase I understand originated in a monologue about a football game.
I was particularly taken by the statement
“Last year, 36 percent of Americans ate white bread in their homes, down from 54 percent in 2000, according to NPD Group. Meanwhile, about 54 percent ate wheat bread, up from 43 percent in 2000.”
Somehow the journalists have gotten a head start on the stupidification of Amerika. While there are flours not made from wheat, this is not the case with Twinkies, at least in the main. Most bread is made of wheat; the distinction they – the journalists who vertically copulated, that is – should have made was ‘whole wheat’ bread which includes the husk and is usually unbleached, although one can now obtain bread made from bleached whole wheat flour which is white.
I can recall reading pieces with greater accuracy in Pravda during the glory days of the Cold War. Which seems to indicate that a byline of Moscow is better than a byline of New Yawk?
The World Wonders, except in the Yankee republic where our information is stercus and too many of us are asentient.
