Proper Disrespect for False Authority

A Modest Proposal

Attention Democrats and Republicans, this has nothing to do with new born children, nor about Jonathon Swift, nor a comment on Irish society.

The National Academy of Science and the National Research Council have come out and announced that Global Warming is actual. Isn't that just like scientists? No political understanding or fear of the state (in the sense of Fried [Fried 1967] – Service [Service 1962] taxonomy of human social organizations). The scientists, typical of scientists, admit of possible inaccuracies but the work appears to be reasonable and worthy of attention.

The political response has been to ask for the financial and research records of the scientists. I can understand the latter but the purpose of the former? Perhaps to determine if the scientist have misused federal grant monies for sex change/enhancement surgery, boondoggle orgies, or OCONUS produced sports automobiles?

Anyway, the modest proposal is that we test the claims. If the Congress Critters, with the cooperation of the occupant of the Presidential Palace and the Carpenters in Tudor Coats, will decrease the speed limits on all roads by 20 (English) miles per hour, and enforce the law with absolute equality and diligence, then in a hundred years or so we may see some clearly demonstrative difference in temperature. And if we can't, then there probably won't be many humans to observe it, and those won't have much in the way of civilization.

This will also address a few other problem areas such as: our increasing dependence on petroleum – a resource in diminishing supply; and all the bad things that accrue from the increasingly hectic pace of life. In fact, the only down aspects of it are that the local constabularies will have to enforce speeding laws and those breaking the speeding laws will be penalized.
